How Will You BT5K Your Way?

Whether you walk, bike, rollerblade or push a stroller, anyone, anywhere can BT5K Your Way. The ABTA Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Run & Walk are going virtual, providing flexible, fun, safe and interactive ways to raise critical funds for brain tumor research and community support services.

By participating in the BT5K Your Way, as a team or solo, your support provides critical programming and services for patients, caregivers and families, including:

    • Free educational events presenting the latest treatment and care information in webinars, virtual patient and family conferences and meetings
    • Transformative programming, including Facebook panel discussions or COVID-19 updates for the brain tumor community
    • Peer-to-peer mentor programs
    • Online discussions groups with experts.

Kicking off the ABTA run/walk virtual events in September, three participants and teams are joining our nationwide event in creative and unique ways that honor and celebrate their family, friends and loved ones impacted by a brain tumor diagnosis. Get ready to get inspired.

Three Inspirations to BT5K Your Way

Walking 1,000+ Miles for His Best Friend

This is Daniel and Craig. Daniel is honoring the memory of his best friend, Craig, at the BT5K Your Way virtual event. He’s already walked more than a thousand miles in honor of his best friend, but the BT5K provides an opportunity to extend his efforts to share Craig’s story and raise critical funds for brain tumor research and patient programs.

Sharing Hope

For more than 14 years, Kim and Jodi has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars at their charitable walk, Sharing Hope Walk, for the ABTA in support of brain tumor research and patient programs. This year, they challenged themselves to level-up their “fundraising game” by forming a team at the NYC 5 Boro Bike Ride, but the coronavirus pandemic changed their plans. Now they’re joining the ABTA BT5K Your Way virtual walk/run event and asking their walk and bike riding participants to join in and support them in their virtual walk/run in September.

Liz’s Unexpected Journey

The BT5K virtual walk holds greater sentiment for Elizabeth and her mom, Heather, this year. This past December, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a second brain tumor, a glioblastoma, and underwent weeks of treatment. This virtual event has rallied their friends and family from across the country and raised funds in creative ways.

How Will You BT5K Your Way?

Since 2006, our Breakthrough Your Way 5K Run & Walks (BT5Ks) have raised more than $18 million for brain tumor research and support services.

Join us for this customizable, flexible fundraising event on September 13 with access to mobile tracking app, online ceremony, guest speakers and free giveaways. Register today to ensure you receive your official BT5K Your Way t-shirt and event certificate.

Additional local BT5K Your Way virtual events are also planned for October and November. Visit BT5K Your Way to learn more or email events@abta.org.

Advancing Brain Tumor Research and Support

Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, the American Brain Tumor Association has invested over $35 million in life-changing brain tumor research, helping pave the way for breakthroughs like the FDA approval of vorasidenib, a groundbreaking treatment for low-grade glioma. Through our Meet Hope Head On campaign, we continue funding critical research and providing free resources for patients and caregivers—bringing hope and advancing care for the brain tumor community.
