Mindfulness and Exercise: Tools for Brain Tumor Survivorship

Mindfulness and Exercise: Tools for Brain Tumor Survivorship

Mindfulness and exercise can transform your approach to survivorship by enhancing both mental and physical well-being. These practices are easy to start and can be adapted to any fitness level or lifestyle.

Mindfulness for Survivorship

Mindfulness practices, like meditation and breathing exercises, reduce stress and promote emotional balance. Techniques such as box breathing or guided meditation can be incorporated into your daily routine. Apps and audio guides are excellent resources to get started.

Importance of Exercise

The National Cancer Institute recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. For those with mobility challenges, options like chair yoga or light resistance training using bands can provide significant benefits.

Getting Started

  • Begin with small, achievable goals, like a 10-minute walk.
  • Explore activities you enjoy, such as dancing or swimming.
  • Partner with a friend or caregiver for extra motivation.

Benefits Beyond the Physical

Mindfulness and exercise work together to improve sleep, reduce fatigue, and boost cognitive function. They also foster a sense of control and resilience during your journey.
