Team Breakthrough Completes the Chicago Marathon

Team Breakthrough Completes the Chicago Marathon

“On the eighth of October, 91 ABTA Team Breakthrough marathon runners joined more than 45,000 athletes from around the world for the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. As an official charity partner of the Chicago Marathon, the ABTA was involved with a range of activities throughout the weekend leading up to the race, including a booth at the race expo, a place in Charity Block Party at mile 14 of the marathon and a table at the Palmer House, an athlete village for the marathon.

These incredible runners—a combination of brain tumor survivors, caregivers, family, friends, medical professionals and brain tumor community supporters—have already raised more than $120,000 for the brain tumor cause this year alone, and that number continues to grow every day.

For three-time team member Rob Arnold, this year’s marathon was especially monumental.

“My third brain surgery was one week after the 2016 marathon, and to be honest, I didn’t think I would run again – I was so worried about my post-surgical functioning,” Rob said. “Believe it or not, my recovery was quick, and I knew it was due to my endurance which I gained from running.”

Not only did Rob complete the 2017 marathon, but he plans to run for Team Breakthrough for a fourth time next year. Guarantee your entry into the 2018 Chicago Marathon with the ABTA! Registration will open on October 24, 2017. For more information about the ABTA’s Team Breakthrough, please contact Kali Drews at kdrews@abta.org or visit www.abtateambreakthrough.org.

About Meet Hope Head On

Because of the generous support from people like you, the ABTA has given over $35 million for brain tumor research. The ABTA’s campaign, Meet Hope Head On,” created for our 50th anniversary, is focused on raising $50 million, in part to fund critical brain tumor research. This campaign is vital for continuing the kind of work that led to the recent FDA approval of vorasidenib, a breakthrough treatment for low-grade glioma.
